Short films in national competition – students

Exceptionally, the above programme will start with a live performance: the musical accompaniment of the silent film Druk. In the face of endless struggles and repetitive work patterns, are we really doing useful work? A nostalgic journey that denounces industrialization, boldly and rhythmically soundtracked with everyday objects.

Directors Célia Hardy (Passagers), Jeanne Ruelle (TOUT CRU) and Noé Garcia (Unusual Sunset) will be present at the screening of Monday 20 February.

Directors Anton Cla (Cyclepaths), Elliot Audigé (Ubi Deus), Joke Duwaerts (Sem), Jeanne Ruelle (TOUT CRU) and Guillaume Geelen, Jordane Berote & Cyprien Golinvaux (David vs Goliath) will be present at the screening of Wednesday 22 February.

Directors Maxime Coton (Changer de peau) and Rik Potoms (1000 Stickers in Brussels) will be present at the screening.

Queer Stories

This programme is more than just a compilation of great LGBTQIA+ films, most of which would have made it into the international competition. It is a celebration. A wind of freedom and audacity will blow through this evening, with live performances by artists from Cabaret Mademoiselle and with La Veuve as the imperial mistress of ceremony.
After this exceptional screening, a 100% festive and 100% inclusive atmosphere in Foyer 1.

Contemporary Spanish Animation 1

Animac Lleida, Catalonia’s international animation film festival, is offering us two programmes. They include some of the best films recently produced by Spanish artists or made in Spain. The selection was made by artistic director Carolina López, the Animac Lleida festival taking place on the same dates!

My Year of Dicks

Directed mostly by women, these films address frankly themes related to love, the body, motherhood … The selection includes My Year of Dicks, the story of an imaginative 15-year-old girl who is determined to lose her virginity, a film that won an award at the latest Annecy Festival.

Producer Olivier Catherin (L’ombre des papillons) will be present at the screening.

Night A

The Night is a clever mix of three programmes of short films consisting of strange little gems and wacky discoveries, alien intermezzos and people readying themselves for a cosy night in their pyjamas and slippers. Relaxed and casual attire is tolerated – and even welcomed – at Flagey on the Night!

Get ready for a night like no other!

Directors Thomas Stellmach (The Sausage Run), Naëlle Gaveriaux (Rémy veut mourir)  and Hye-Jeong Lee (Going Well…) will be present.

Night B

The Night is a clever mix of three programmes of short films consisting of strange little gems and wacky discoveries, alien intermezzos and people readying themselves for a cosy night in their pyjamas and slippers. Relaxed and casual attire is tolerated – and even welcomed – at Flagey on the Night!

Get ready for a night like no other!

Directors Andreia Dobrota (Bench) and Arthur Dupuy (Une belle nuit d’été) will be present.

Night C

Directors Melina Ienco (La Quête de l’humain) and regisseur Erik van Schaaik & producer Anita van Dalen (The Smile) will be present.

Non-Non dans l'espace

In a cloud of smoke and sparks, Bigtooth’s rocket leaves the Earth. Weightless in space, No-No and his friends have no time to admire the landscape, however, as a meteor shower sends them off course and onto an unknown planet! This film is preceded by three other stories featuring daring heroes!

Director Wassim Boutaleb et producer Olivier Nomen (Non-Non dans l’espace) will be present at the screening.

Drôles d'oiseaux

Ten-year-old Ellie loves nature and birds and spends all her time reading. One day, in order to return an ornithology book to the librarian, she goes to an island on the Loire, a few kilometres from school. The island is full of birds … Composed of four tactful films, this programme will delight gentle and sensitive children in particular.

Directors Jaimeen Desai (Théo le château d’eau) and Charlie Belin (Drôles d’oiseaux) will be present at the screening of Monday 20 February.

Franzy’s Soup-Kitchen

A short but wonderful programme for the little ones. Made using various techniques, these films feature, in order of appearance: affectionate teddy bears, a tyrannosaurus who’s not very good at basketball, two worm friends, a careful bird, a little witch and an alien who is preparing a delicious pink soup with a secret ingredient...

Superasticot

Superworm is superlong and superstrong, and he’s always saving the day. But who will be there to save him when he gets too full of himself and is captured by the evil Wizard Lizard ? This new rhyming opus from Magic Light Pictures (The Gruffalo, Zog, etc.) is preceded by three films about friendship and helping each other out.

From Major to Minor

The result of a selection from the Punto y Raya Festival, this screening features 18 abstract shorts from Spain and elsewhere. Punto y Raya (Dot and Line) is dedicated to visual art in its purest state: form, colour, movement and sound. Without representation! And in the spirit of the pure and absolute cinema formulated by the European avant-garde in the 1920s. Noël Palazzo and Ana Santos will talk about the films and answer your questions (in English).

Animación para los niños

Animayo, the international animation film festival of Las Palmas, in the Canary Islands, presents a selection of the best Spanish amateur shorts from its 2022 edition, made by children.
Damián Perea will talk about the films and answer your questions (in English).

Bike Talk

Cyclists are not always who you think they are. After the screening of a few animated films featuring cyclists from all walks of life, there will be a discussion about cycling with the Pro Velo team and some unexpected cycling fans – a discussion that will go beyond the stereotypes and clichés.Anima will be the starting point for Pro Velo’s first guided ride of the season, a ride devoted to comics.

Directors Marcel Barelli (Autosaurus rex), Jasmijn Cedée (Toer) and Jacinthe Folon (Roues Libres) will be present at the screening of Tuesday 21 February.
